What to expect from your Wedding Day Makeup Artist

Hiring a makeup artist for your wedding day should be a top priority on your list of planning.  New digital cameras can reveal every detail of the skin and emphasis any imperfections. My makeup experience in the fashion and cosmetic industries lends an upper hand in creating flawless, picture perfect beauty for your photos.  Don't let your makeup be an afterthought.

By selecting a makeup artist who will travel to the location of your choice, you can avoid any unnecessary driving and alleviate some of the stress from the hectic wedding day preparation.  You and your bridal party can be pampered and will have the chance to relax in the last few moments before saying "I do!"

Once you've decided on your makeup artist, I strongly advise you to secure the date with the required paperwork and booking retainer.  Keep in mind it's never too early to book your makeup services.  My calendar fills up rather quickly and during the popular wedding months, the weekends tend to become unavailable sooner than anticipated.  By returning your signed agreement and retainer, you are guaranteed your wedding date will be secured.

Following receipt of your paperwork and retainer you will be considered "booked" and the balance of any monies due will be requested no later than the week preceding your wedding date.  The day of the wedding is extremely chaotic so having your makeup services paid in advance will help minimize any stress.

I will also touch base with you a day or so before your wedding to confirm the time and location for the makeup services and to be sure we are on target with the photographer's timeline.  I do accept all forms of communication; phone, email and text, so you can rest assured knowing you will be able to reach me with any last minute updates or changes.

Your makeup consultation often referred to as a "trial run" will involve approximately one to two hours and is offered at the location of your choice or my beachside makeup studio.  This is your opportunity to try out different looks and styles to find out what will work perfectly for your wedding day.  The consultation also provides me with knowledge of your skin's texture and tone and allows me to see which specific products will be best for you.  A consultation is suggested but is not required as my work with photo shoots has given me the experience of applying makeup on the spot.

Since certain primers and moisturizers may not work well with my professional products, I ask that everyone please arrive with a clean face.  That also means no traces of leftover eyeliner, mascara or lip color.  If anyone has a specific skin condition, sensitivity or allergy, please let me know in advance of the wedding day.

Wedding days are extremely busy and rustling everyone up to sit down to be beautified can be challenging.  Cell phones are ringing, bridesmaids are texting, the florist is knocking.......Always allow more than enough time for everyone to schedule their hair and makeup.  I suggest at least 40-60 minutes per person.

I am able to apply makeup either before or after the hair is styled so coordination with the hair stylist will be on an individual basis.  I can recommend several competent hair stylists who will travel on location and provide outstanding services.  We work in harmony with you and your bridal party to minimize the time involved and create a relaxing and fun atmosphere.

Any hair removal procedures; waxing, threading, tweezing, etc., should be done at least 2-3 days before the wedding date otherwise skin irritation and discomfort may occur with the application of makeup on those specific areas.

On the day of your wedding, be sure to eat and remember to brush your teeth prior to your time in the makeup chair. There's nothing worse than realizing you forgot to brush your teeth after being all glammed up and ready to go.  Keep some drinking straws handy. Using a drinking straw can help minimize any chance of potential spoiling of your makeup or lip color until your ceremony begins.

I suggest wearing either a button-down shirt, bath robe or tube top so it is easier to change clothing after your makeup and hair is complete.  I have seen many a bridesmaid in a t-shirt who found the only option was to be cut out of the shirt!  So, please remind the girls to wear an easy-to-remove shirt.

You may also use a pillow case to keep your makeup and hair safe while getting dressed. For gals who aren't able to step into their wedding day attire, place your arms in front of your face with your fingers stretching above your head. Keep your arms a few inches in front of your face and your hands a few inches above your head. Have your friends drop a large pillow case over both your arms and head.

Once the pillow case is situated and protecting your face and hair, your friends can begin to slide your wedding day dress over your head. By using your arms and hands to hold the pillow case away from your face and hair, there is no fear of messing your hairstyle or getting makeup on your clothing.
But the best thing to expect from your Wedding Day Makeup Artist is a quality, professional makeup application in a comfortable atmosphere!

The highs and lows of a wedding budget

The "dirty" word: If you have ever planned a wedding or have been around someone planning a wedding, there is one single word that makes even the most level-headed bride cringe. Budget. There, I said it. Cut and dry. Now that it's out in the open, let's discuss exactly why that word brings out the inner bridezilla. To start off with, ask any number of brides what their budget is, and I guarantee you will get just as many answers. Budgets can range from under $2,000 on up and past $200,000. It doesn't mean that any amount is better than another. Every wedding has a budget because every couple draws the dollar line somewhere. A budget just defines what you have to spend. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. A bigger budget doesn't make any one bride better than another, nor any wedding less important. So in short, every bride is a budget bride no matter the dollar amount. When you think of it that way, it can wrangle in the green-eyed...

Planning a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings have become increasingly more common. With a touch of added romance, zesty adventure and of course the sultry GETAWAY, a destination wedding can be just that little special touch you're looking for. Planning and organizing a wedding in another city, state or country can be overwhelming and downright nerve-wracking. Trusting wedding professionals is scary enough, but depending on those not within reach can be quite intimidating.  As quoted from theKnot.com in their Destination Wedding Basics: Top 13 Destination Wedding Tips, the Knot highly suggests  to "Bring pros you trust from home to handle critical aspects such as the wedding photography, hair and makeup, and design (lighting, flowers)." There are so many things that can go wrong; no-show vendors, inferior skills, misunderstandings due to a language barrier, makeup artists not familiar with your skin type, strange and unregulated cosmetic products, and of course, fear of the unknown...

Do I need a trial makeup consultation for my wedding?

This question comes up quite often so I decided to give you my thoughts. Do I need a trial makeup consultation for my wedding? In one simple word, no . I realize there are some makeup artists out there who will not, for whatever reason, provide wedding day makeup for a bride without first having a consultation. I am not one of those artists. Perhaps it stems from working in the film and print industry (outside of bridal) where I have learned to hone my skills and listen to what the client wants. Whether it's a model, photographer or producer requesting a specific look, I am confident in my ability to provide exactly what they envision for their project. My clients are pleased and everyone walks away satisfied with the results. My years of experience working as a makeup artist in Florida has given me a long history of wedding day makeup for destination brides. Very few of these brides are able to make all but the most required trips to plan their wedding day. Trying to schedule in ...
