Friday Focus - Redheads !

This blog post is dedicated to redheads, whether natural or by choice. Makeup and red hair is so much fun.

Many natural redheads have fair skin and freckles which I just love. My personal choice is to go with a sheer makeup coverage, perhaps a tinted moisturizer to allow the freckles to show through, but some redheads may want to have a more pigmented foundation to blend and hide the freckles. Avoid going to dark with the foundation because it may begin to appear unnatural.

Using a cheek stain will help bring up the natural blush color and look fresh. I don't suggest bronzers for fair skin as they tend to not match the skin tones of redheads.
Neutral eye shadows are the best bet for fair skin and red hair. In fact, neutrals look great on just about every skin color. If your lashes are light, opt for brown mascara as opposed to black to avoid a harsh look. Use a soft pencil liner or an angled brush and powder shadow to line the eyes.

Finding a lip color may be challenging, but if you keep to neutrals you may find it easier to find the color you like. Sometimes deep pinks and even plums can work as long as the colors don't compete with your hair color.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors. Certain cosmetic brands may have higher levels of pigments than others. Those with low levels may not look the same on the skin as they do in their packaging.

Make Up for the DIY (Do It Yourself) Bride

If you're a "Do It Yourself" kind of girl, I may venture to guess that your wedding is no exception. Whether for financial reasons or just the hesitation of letting go, you may decide to take wedding day beauty into your own hands. Here is where I can help. Let me give you a few insights into creating a picture perfect bridal photo. There's nothing wrong with doing it yourself, if you're well-informed and excellent at applying your own makeup. I've been doing makeup for well over 20 years and even still I would never attempt to do my own makeup for my wedding day. But to those who are more adventurous, I will provide you with a few important tips. Flawless makeup begins with flawless skin. Get routine facials, wear sunscreen, avoid harmful tanning, drink lots of water, watch what you eat and take care of your skin. We can always make our skin darker with bronzers and spray-on tans but once you damage your skin with UV rays, there's no way i...

Red Apple Lipstick

I recently received the cutest makeup package in the mail. It was from Red Apple Lipstick . The items were wrapped in “apple” green tissue paper and placed inside a small burlap-style drawstring pouch. The products included full-size versions of a lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner pencil and a sample lipstick with disposable lip brush. I grabbed the lip pencil first. This was the R-evolution lip liner and the color was Nude. Just as the name implies, it’s the perfect shade to create a neutral lip. The pencil went on creamy, without tugging or stretching the lips and the color stayed true to form. With a matte finish, it creates the perfect daytime finish. Next, was the full-size lipstick in New York, a brown based nude with orange undertones that blended superbly with the Nude pencil. I really liked the consistency of the lipstick and the smooth results it provided. It has no shimmer and is an ideal choice for the workplace. It’s a fantastic color option for day or night. The lip gloss wa...

Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow....

As temperatures begin to drop, humidity lowers and the winds pick up, your skin can become dry and irritated. You need to take care of your skin from head to toe. Here are a few tips to Winterize your skin. Start by switching your facial cleanser to one that is designed for sensitive skin. You want to avoid over exfoliating as it can cause your skin to become dry, red and flaky. Hot showers and baths will open the pores causing moisture in the skin to evaporate. Opt for luke warm water instead. When you dry off, use patting motions rather than rubbing the towel across your skin. Apply a moisturizing lotion immediately to help seal in the moisture and keep your skin soft and supple. To perk up dry, tired skin, use a hydrating facial mask infused with vitamins. This will help restore the natural glow of the skin. Feed your skin with antioxidants and Omega-3 fats. Choose foods with nutrients that will help your skin retain its natural oils. Be sure you are getting the...
