Eyelash Extensions

Women love lashes, long lashes. And with the newest trend in Eyelash Extensions to hit the streets, I've seen my share of the good and the bad.

Just like any other beauty service, you can end up with a great outcome, or a not-so-great one depending upon the person providing the application. Do your research before you schedule an appointment for Eyelash Extensions. Schedule a consultation with a reputable and licensed salon or specialist offering Eyelash Extensions. Be sure the stylist themselves is a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist.

At your consultation, determine what type glue/adhesive is being used. You want to avoid any glue with a formaldehyde base. Hypoallergenic adhesives are available. Ask to see the lashes. They should be single lashes and not clusters. These single lashes are applied individually to one of your own lashes creating a natural look.

Some Eyelash Extensions may be made from synthetic fibers which can cause allergic reactions in certain people. Keep in mind, chemical exposure (such as fumes from the glue)so close to the cornea could be harmful and result in irritation and infection. I've also seen many people report loss of their natural lashes. As the extensions begin to grow out, they may have a tendency to take your own natural lashes along with them.

If you choose to get Eyelash Extensions, follow these few tips:

Splish splash! Avoid getting your extensions wet for at least 24 to 48 hours after they have been applied. This includes hot yoga, workouts, showers, pools and crying. Water or dampness may cause the adhesive to reactivate and the lashes may become stuck together.

Hands off! Resist pulling, tugging, twisting and even excessively brushing your lash extensions. If you want them removed, schedule a visit with a professional.

Wipe out! When washing or styling your hair with products, keep them out of your lashes. Ingredients in shampoos, conditioners and styling products may loosen the bond.

Ship shape! Gently reshape your lashes to spread them in place after showering. Use a small fan brush to separate them if needed.

Miracle grow! Check with the stylist to see if you are permitted to use an eyelash conditioner on your own lashes. This will help keep your natural lashes healthy and stronger as the extensions grow out.

Make Up for the DIY (Do It Yourself) Bride

If you're a "Do It Yourself" kind of girl, I may venture to guess that your wedding is no exception. Whether for financial reasons or just the hesitation of letting go, you may decide to take wedding day beauty into your own hands. Here is where I can help. Let me give you a few insights into creating a picture perfect bridal photo. There's nothing wrong with doing it yourself, if you're well-informed and excellent at applying your own makeup. I've been doing makeup for well over 20 years and even still I would never attempt to do my own makeup for my wedding day. But to those who are more adventurous, I will provide you with a few important tips. Flawless makeup begins with flawless skin. Get routine facials, wear sunscreen, avoid harmful tanning, drink lots of water, watch what you eat and take care of your skin. We can always make our skin darker with bronzers and spray-on tans but once you damage your skin with UV rays, there's no way i...

Red Apple Lipstick

I recently received the cutest makeup package in the mail. It was from Red Apple Lipstick . The items were wrapped in “apple” green tissue paper and placed inside a small burlap-style drawstring pouch. The products included full-size versions of a lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner pencil and a sample lipstick with disposable lip brush. I grabbed the lip pencil first. This was the R-evolution lip liner and the color was Nude. Just as the name implies, it’s the perfect shade to create a neutral lip. The pencil went on creamy, without tugging or stretching the lips and the color stayed true to form. With a matte finish, it creates the perfect daytime finish. Next, was the full-size lipstick in New York, a brown based nude with orange undertones that blended superbly with the Nude pencil. I really liked the consistency of the lipstick and the smooth results it provided. It has no shimmer and is an ideal choice for the workplace. It’s a fantastic color option for day or night. The lip gloss wa...

Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow....

As temperatures begin to drop, humidity lowers and the winds pick up, your skin can become dry and irritated. You need to take care of your skin from head to toe. Here are a few tips to Winterize your skin. Start by switching your facial cleanser to one that is designed for sensitive skin. You want to avoid over exfoliating as it can cause your skin to become dry, red and flaky. Hot showers and baths will open the pores causing moisture in the skin to evaporate. Opt for luke warm water instead. When you dry off, use patting motions rather than rubbing the towel across your skin. Apply a moisturizing lotion immediately to help seal in the moisture and keep your skin soft and supple. To perk up dry, tired skin, use a hydrating facial mask infused with vitamins. This will help restore the natural glow of the skin. Feed your skin with antioxidants and Omega-3 fats. Choose foods with nutrients that will help your skin retain its natural oils. Be sure you are getting the...
